GOLD medal shit
Giving your all is enough… except for when it’s not. The truth is, we are never giving our all. Are we working hard? Sure. Are we giving every last drop that we have? 99% of the time we are not. There is always more in the tank. We can always give just a little bit more in every aspect of life. A little more effort in the gym. A little more love to our partner. A little more support to our friends. A little more focus to our work. The little bit extra we have left to give has the potential to separate us from the rest. This little bit extra is our gold medal shit.
Tapping into our gold medal shit isn’t easy, sexy, or fun. It isn’t normal. Most people won’t ever do it. And if you want to be elite, you will. You have to; you don’t have the option. Becoming elite in any field requires giving everything you got, plus your gold medal shit. And often, the gold medal shit is even more than we think.
Over time, your gold medal shit becomes more difficult. What was once gold medal shit becomes the norm. Getting the extra reps in the gym might have set you apart from the rest in highschool, but in college everyone does it. It is because of this truth that we must reflect upon our work ethic as we continue through our journeys towards greatness. If we continue to do the same things over time, we will eventually plateau and fall short of our goals.
A wise man once said, “Your system is working perfectly for the results you are getting.” If we want to change our results, we must change our system. And that includes our gold medal shit. So define your gold medal shit. What is it that you have to do in order to separate yourself from the rest? And over time, reflect on your definition and change it when appropriate. If you want to be elite, you must be willing to give whatever it takes. And that includes your gold medal shit.
